NFL player, Jared Allen, who was looking for a new team, finally got the deal he wanted. Earlier in the week, the American Football player was all set to sign a contract with Seattle Seahawks. However, even after going to Seattle twice, the 31-year-old was not convinced about the price and deep down he believed that he was worth more than the $12 million the Seahawks were offering him for two years.
In the end, he proved himself right as he finalized a deal worth $32 million for a 4-year contract with Chicago Bears which also gives him a guarantee of $15.5 million. Everyone were expecting him to sign the deal with the Seahawks as he had agreed to all their terms and he had no other offers in hand. However, he waited patiently for a better deal and it finally came through on Tuesday night. Allen will now be replacing Julius Peppers in the Chicago Bears team.
The deal came as a shock for the Seahawks as they were not expecting a team like Chicago to offer such a huge price to Allen just after they had signed another defender in Lamarr Houston. The Seahawks were not able to offer so much to any player as they wanted to extend the contract of some of their other players.
It was not just the money, as there was another factor which led to Allen’s surprising decision- the playing time he would be getting at Seahawks. He felt that he would eventually become a situational player at Seahawks with the likes of Michael Bennett and Chris Avril competing for the same position.
The only incentive for Allen at Seahawks was that he would be playing for a champion team which has just won the Super Bowl. However, ultimately at Chicago, Allen won’t have any regrets.
