Jules Bianchi the French Formula 1 driver of team Marussia had to undergo an emergency surgery after he was involved in a fatal crash at the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday that left him with a serious head injury. The rain-hit race was won by Mercedes driver and former F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, but his triumph was clearly eclipsed by the crash.
The red flag was shown with just nine laps remaining when Sauber’s Adrian Sutil was involved in a minor crash at one of the turns in the Suzuka circuit as his car spun and hit the tire barrier. When Sutil’s crashed car was being taken away, Bianchi’s Marussia staggered off at almost the same spot and hit the vehicle which was removing Sutil’s car.
Medical attention was given to him immediately and he was quickly rushed to the nearest hospital by an ambulance. However, he was unconscious when he was being taken to the hospital. The race was briefly stopped after the incident. All the big names including the winner of the race Lewis Hamilton were naturally quite upset as the CT scans revealed a severe head injury. The governing body of the sport FIA issued a statement giving the latest news on his status.
Once Bianchi was out of surgery, the official who was in charge of communications Makoto Sakaeda told news-persons that the surgery was over, but Bianchi will be kept at the facility for a few more days as his condition is constantly being monitored.
Bianchi who is in only his second season in Formula 1 was born into a family of drivers. His grandfather used to compete in the GT category races while his great uncle raced in 19 grand prix. There was no celebration whatsoever at the podium after the race finished as the whole racing fraternity prayed that Bianchi comes out of danger soon and quickly recovers to full fitness.
