Fred Phelps – One of the Most Hated Figures in America Passed Away

America’s noted anti-gay activist, Fred Phelps, died at the age of 84 in his hometown of Topeka, Kansas. Fred had absolutely strange beliefs about God. He believed that God is punishing the people of America because of their attitude towards homosexuality. He was loathed by both the gay and LGBT community and the people with straight sexual orientations, mainly because of the protests he carried out along with his family during military funerals.

He was the founder of a church called the Westboro Baptist Church where the faithfuls consisted of mainly the members of his large family. He had a tainted past as he was disbarred as a civil rights lawyer. His church demonstrations began in 2005 and he soon devoted his whole life to the cause and was joined by many of his family members and traveled across the United States to highlight how the American society has become so sinful.

Fred didn’t shy away from using indecent language like employing a slogan – “God hates fags” to attract more attention. Fred gained notoriety after he led a demonstration at the funeral of President Bill Clinton‘s mother and Nobel laureate Al Gore‘s father.

In an interview, he twisted the words in the Bible by saying that God hates the sinner as well as the sin. When people realized that the whole demonstrations was getting out of hand, authorities tried to create a buffer zone. However, he managed to convince the Supreme Court that his church demonstrations comes under the US citizen’s right to carry out a protected form of address.

It is not known how he died, but according to some reports, he was having some health problems. He is one person whose death won’t be mourned by the citizens of America.
