In a completely bizarre incident former Major League Baseball star Jose Canseco shot himself in his left middle finger accidentally when he was cleaning his gun in Las Vegas. He had to undergo a surgery at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas where the doctors tried to re-attach the finger to his hand. During that incident his fiance and model Leila Knight was with him and she immediately called 911. Within minutes of her call, medical personnel as well as officers from the Las Vegas Metro Police Department arrived at his home. After questioning Knight, they declared that no crime occurred and that it was just an accident.
Leila Knight told news reporters that Canseco was cleaning one of his four guns in their kitchen when it fired by mistake and took with it the middle finger of his left hand.
Canseco is famous for making headlines in the World Series twenty five years ago when he helped his team win the title. Canseco’s life after baseball has been no short of interesting. The 50 year old slugger was well enough to post a photo of his injured hand on Twitter on Wednesday. In the picture, you can see him with a huge cast over his hand alongside Knight. Canseco has lived a tumultuous life as a sportsman as he admitted to using performancebenhancing drugs during his playing days and said that most MLB players do it. He even released a book where he revealed a lot of facts about the life of a MLB player.
After he took retirement from baseball, he tried his hand at mixed martial art and boxing, though with little success. He has an identical twin brother Ozzie Canseco who is also a former major league player. Canseco started his career in the league in 1985 with Oakland Athletics. His last MLB appearance was way back in October 2001 when he played for Chicago White Sox.
