Rousey Defeats McMann in 66 Seconds

On Saturday February 22, 2014, Ronda Rousey defeated Sara McMann in the UFC 170 Bantamweight in just 66 seconds with a knee to the liver. While some watching the match suggest that the match was stopped too early by the referee.

McMann had fallen to the mat and was laying unprotected. She was trying to get up, but it is the referee’s job to stop the match once a fighter becomes unable to protect herself says McMann who says she totally understands the decision.

Sara McMann was gracious in the defeat saying, “I thought it was a good fight. I got hit in the liver, and no matter how hard you train, you can’t get your liver stronger,” McMann said. “I hope to get a rematch and come back here and put on a better fight. I was trying to get back up, but it’s my own fault. I should’ve gotten back to my feet quicker.”

While McMann returns to training in hopes of getting a new match with Rousey someday, Rousey will take a break from the arena to return to film making. She has already appeared in the Fast & Furious 7, The Expendables 3.

Ronda Rousey says she hopes to return to the arena someday. This break may be good news for Cat Zingano who is currently ranked number 2 in the world, but is still recovering from recent knee surgery. Others are suggesting that Rousey’s next fight might be against Miesha Tate who Rousey has already defeated in UFC 168 or Alexis Davis. Davis defeated Jessica Eye on Saturday night.
