The photo messaging service Snapchat which was launched back in 2011 in Los Angeles has been going through a roller coaster ride. However, on Thursday the company rolled out some new features which are touted by many as their biggest update yet. Some of these new features include text messaging and video chatting on the video and photo sharing app. The latest update allows the users to have real-time conversations.

According to a blog post posted by the company, the users will now have complete attention of their friends when they are chatting. The app will be available for both the Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android users. The users will be able to chat with their friends by swiping on their friend’s name. Once they leave the chat screen, the messages will be deleted automatically.

The company apart from introducing the new features, has also given a facelift to the various other attributes by redesigning the icons and the whole user interface. Now you can easily navigate through the menu and the font size has also been reduced. With the much improved camera, you can now make live video calls.

With the addition of the text messaging feature, you can have a full fledged conversation with your friends who are in your inbox. You can exchange snaps within messaging through the capture button which is located next to the text window.

This development is significant in the wake of the increasing value of mobile messaging, for instance Facebook once was interested in buying Snapchat for $3 billion, but eventually acquired WhatsApp for $19 billion.

With this latest update, the company has been fairly successful in creating a powerful platform for messaging that reinforces the roots of the app.
