Austin, Texas woke up to a deadly car crash on March 13. The accident involved a drunk driver whose rash driving led to the tragic death of two people, injuring a few others. The driver was allegedly trying to escape arrest as he was driving under the influence.
The ones killed included a woman who was struck by the car while she was on a moped and a Dutch man who was on a bicycle. Both of them were declared dead at the scene of the accident. The others who were left injured are receiving treatment at the nearest hospital.
The Austin police captured the 22- year old suspect. The incident took place at 12:30 AM local time. A police officer was patrolling the streets looking for drunk drivers at that time. He tried to stop the car at a petrol bunk, but the driver tried to flee and managed to evade the cops. Soon the driver lost control of his car, entered the wrong side of the road and struck many pedestrians and vehicles.
The accident occurred near the venue of the SXSW festival. Many people from different parts of the country come down to Austin to witness the festival which is a combination of music and films.
The manger of the SXSW or the South By Southwest festival, Roland Swenson was shocked to hear about the incident and expressed his grief. However, it was announced that the festival will continue as per the schedule and there would be no changes. Even the police chief didn’t want the event to be stopped because of the irresponsible act of one person.
Many celebrities who came to participate in the festival like James Moody the owner of Mohawk expressed their shock over the incident on Twitter.
