After facing a tumultuous summer that saw a lot of cast changes being made, the premiere of the 40th season of Saturday Night Live turned out to be completely hilarious thanks mainly to the host Chris Pratt and his histrionics. The show which is running successfully for the last 40 years witnessed one of its best episode in a long while as it featured a number of celebrities making short appearances.
Pratt started off the show with a monologue in the form of a musical introduction with his trademark suave and everyday charm. He then made fun of his unsteady physique and got involved in a backchat with Anna Faris, his wife who was there sitting among the audience. One of the rising stars of the show Aidy Bryant did a humorous sketch with Pratt where both of them did their best “Booty Rap”. His parody of the latest Marvel hit Guardians of the Galaxy in which he himself starred was also quite tongue-in-cheek.
In a video that was recently released, Pratt came together with musical guest Ariana Grande for the promotion of their upcoming episode. During their second take Pratt mistakes Grande for a Latino. She however corrects him by saying that she is Italian. Later in the show, the cast took a jibe at the NFL, as the players introduced themselves by revealing about their criminal pasts.
The episode also saw the debut of Michael Che, the anchor for Weekend Update and Pete Davidson who is a cast member. Che though took some time before getting into a rhythm with Colin Jost. Davidson who apparently is the youngest member of the cast was a total revelation as he made his appearance as the resident young person of the Weekend Update. Davidson was like a breath of fresh air for the show after the departure of Sudeikis, Samberg and Hader.
