Derek Jeter couldn’t have asked for a better ending to his career at the iconic Yankees stadium. Jeter who is one of the most experienced shortstop for the New York Yankees was playing in his 1391st game which was also his final home game. The team was on top at the ninth innings and were having a comfortable lead of 5-2. At that point in time many thought the manage would give him an opportunity for a last ovation from the sell-out crowd in the stadium by sending a defensive replacement.
However, there was a twist in the tale as the two sluggers from Baltimore Orioles Steve Pearce and Adam Jones hit back-to-back home runs to tie the game. Thanks to this dramatic turnaround Jeter had to stay in the game. Jeter was all set to come to bat third from bottom and just like a perfect script he drove with a winning run and a walk-off single in his last match at the Yankee Stadium to give his team a 6-5 win over Baltimore Orioles.
On his first pitch, Jeter went the other way just like he used to do so many times in his long career. It was total chaos at the end with Anton Richardson running for Jose Pirela at the lead-off single. Richardson showed full commitment as he dived head first to score.
The opportunity was perfect for Jeter for one final good-bye that he could remember his entire life as he walked on to bat for one last time. The huge crowd was chanting his name and he made sure that there was no mistakes.
In his entire 20 year long and illustrious career, Jeter has managed to earn a reputation for coming through in tight circumstances and so he concluded his term in the Yankees uniform true to his form. We all wish he enjoys his retirement.
