Dancing with the Stars Returns to the Small Screen

Alfonso Ribeiro’s performance was easily the best in the season premiere of the 19th season of the dance reality show Dancing with the Stars on Monday night. Thanks to his stellar performance along with his partner Witney Carson, Ribeiro finished on top with a score of 36 among the 13 famous celebrities who are all vying for the sought after trophy. On the other hand, Olympic star Lolo Jones and well known designer Betsey Johnson faltered during their performance as they both received a very low score from the judges. This season’s cast include people from a variety of backgrounds like comedian Tommy Chong, talk show host Tavis Smiley, TV actress Janel Parrish among many others.

This year the scoring pattern has been changed as the audience vote will also count and the dancing couple with the lowest total of audience vote and judges’ scores will be eliminated. For the latest season, one couple will be eliminated on Tuesday nights. This season, there has been an addition to the judges panel as Julianne Hough a former Dancing with the Stars pro dancer has joined Tonioli, Goodman and Carrie Ann Inaba.

Some of the other dancers who gave an impressive performance include teenage TV star Sadie Robertson and her partner Mark Ballas. Actor Jonathan Bennett received a standing ovation from the audience for his polished performance with partner Allison Holker. The couple got a score of 30 from the judges. NASCAR racer Michael Waltrip got mixed reviews from the judges after his cha-cha-cha with Emma Slater.

ABC’s Dancing with the Stars started way back in 2005 with just six celebrities paired with six professional dancers. However, over a period of time, the number of contestants increased with every season and this time, there are 13 dancing couples. This time, each episode of the show is two hours long and is being hosted by Erin Andrews and Tom Bergeron.
