The two-time emmy-winning actress, Ann Davis, who is best known for her role as Alice the nutty housekeeper on the show Brady Bunch, died in a hospital in San Antonio on Sunday. She was 88 years old. She went into a coma after she fell in her bathtub and injured her head and died following a subdural hematoma. She was living with Bill Frey, a retired bishop, and his wife at their home in San Antonio. It was a very unfortunate incident as she was in perfect health. The news of her death was made public by her agent Robert Malcolm.

Ann Davis became a house-hold name across America in the late 60s and and early 70s thanks to her performance as Alice Nelson in the sitcom The Brady Bunch. The TV series was one of the most watched prime-time show during its time. The character of Alice was an endearing one, who longed for love, but never really managed or expected to find love.

Before The Brady Bunch, Ann made her mark as an established TV actress in “The Bob Cummings Show” which aired in the 1950s. In this show, she played the character Charmaine Schultz who was an unhappy secretary to a Hollywood photographer. She was always surrounded by glamorous models and felt dejected as she could never manage to look like those beauties. She won the Emmy award as the lead actress in the year 1958 and 1959 for playing the character of Schultzy.

Between the shows The Brady Bunch and The Bob Cummings Show, Ann worked on many other shows like The John Forsythe Show and The Keefe Brasselle Show and even played small roles in some movies like Lover Come Back and All Hands on Deck. She was born in 1926 along-with her twin sister Harriet on May 3. She wanted to become a doctor when she entered college, but changed her mind and instead decided to pursue a Bachelor’s in Theater. She graduated in 1948 and soon started working in small theater productions.

Her life took a decisive turn when she moved to Los Angeles and was spotted by a casting agent while she was working at a cabaret-coffehouse. Apart from working in TV series, she also made her presence felt in many TV commercials. In the 1970s she joined a religious group headed by Bishop Frey and remained with the group till her death.
