The fans of the popular sitcom How I Met Your Mother were eagerly waiting for the final episode of the final season, but what they saw left them cheated. A warning for those who have not yet seen the final episode which was broadcast on Monday, March 31, as there are spoilers ahead.
The mother was finally revealed in the finale, but only to kill her off subsequently to reunite Ted Mosby with Robin Scherbatsky. The mother was Tracy McConnell who only had a brief presence in the season. The fans who were expecting a happy ending were denied that pleasure, but were even made to look like fools as the elaborate story that was set-up was never meant to be like that.
The show which had characters like Marshall Eriksen and Lily Aldrin reiterated the belief among youngsters that love can last even if there are serious differences between the couple. The whole idea of the show revolved around marriage and how it can be such a desirable thing and the show went against the stereotype by showcasing a man as the person who wanted to get married. Barney always remained the person who represented the pick-up culture that prevails in the society and who never really transformed, even after his marriage to Robin.
The show started to veer away from the whole narrative during the final few seasons and the concluding episode which was the 208th episode only made it more pronounced. However, for many the final episode would just be a bad hour of TV after a number of good half-hours.
In-spite of the serious blunder that the producers of the show Craig Thomas and Carter Bays made in their final episode, the show which premiered first in the year 2005 will always remain among the best sitcoms.
