If the rumors are to be believed, then actress Margot Robbie is all set to play Harley Quinn, in the upcoming movie Suicide Squad. This information was first reported in Collider.com. The movie which is slated for a 2016 release will be directed by David Ayer. Just a few days back it was learned that Jared Leto will be playing the role of the Joker in the movie. Other big names who have been associated with the project include Tom Hardy and Will Smith.
The character Harley Quinn was first introduced in the animated series of Batman as the sidekick of Joker. In that particular film, she became very popular as an anti-hero in her own right. She was an analyst who took Joker’s case, but she was attracted to him and was subsequently lulled into a spiritless relationship with him. However, in Suicide Squad, it will be the first time that the fictitious character will be depicted on the big screen.
Those who are well-versed with the comic may be quite familiar with the character, but the average movie-goer may be wondering why there was a need for a female joker. However, they will get to know the significance of the character once the movie releases. The character of Harley Quinn suffers a lot at the hands of her sadistic beau. It will be quite interesting to see how the director handles the role as the super-hero genre is being put under a lot of scrutiny through a feminist prism. However, many are raising doubts about Robbie’s ability to pull off the character.
