In a recap of episode 16 of season 13 of American Idol, which was aired on March 5, the top 12 contestants presented a very sub-standard performance in front of the judges and the audience. Thanks to the ordinary performances of the participants, the three judges – Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. were never in agreement with each other.
Since this was an elimination week, the singers were a little jittery and the nervousness clearly showed in their performances. Jena Irene was the first one to perform. She sang ‘Suddenly I See’ by KT Tunstall. It wasn’t the worst performance, but a lot of her notes fell flat.
Next on stage was Alex Preston who sang ‘I don’t want to be’ by Gavin DeGraw. He tried his best, but failed to dazzle.
The last to perform was Majesty Rose who sang Coldplay’s ‘Fix You’. She was not very convincing, but did just enough to escape from the bottom three.
By the end of all the performances, the judges chose an all-female bottom three – Jena Irene, Emily Piriz and MK Nobilette. The performance of the top 12 together on the song ‘home’ was dreadful with the audience also not helping by clapping in between the song.
When it was time for the results to be declared, the names of Ben, Jessica, Sam and Emily were called and the host of the show Ryan Seacrest immediately sent Emily to the bottom, which meant the others were safe. When the results of the other set of singers were declared, Jena was among the bottom to be joined by MK. Eventually, the judges declared Emily as the person who would be leaving the show.
