Peyton Manning Breaks the NFL Record for the Maximum Number of Touchdown Passes

Peyton Manning the quarterback for Denver Broncos has created history by breaking Brett Favre’s NFL record of making the maximum number of touchdown passes. Manning scored his 509th strike on Sunday October 19th against San Francisco 49ers. The 38-year-old quarterback broke the all-time record in the second quarter of the game against the 49ers. The Broncos then went on to register a convincing victory by a margin of 42-17. His team-mates though played a little prank by keeping the record-setting ball away from him.

Once the game was over, Manning was nearly mobbed on the sidelines as both his team-mates and coach congratulated him by slapping him on the shoulder pad and helmet. The public announcer in the stadium Alan Roach paid a video tribute which included a message from the previous record holder Brett Favre and several of his teammates as well as the general manager of his team. The fans didn’t need any reminder though as they were well aware of what was about to happen and the tension grew after he reached touchdown 507 and 508. The lucky receiver to catch the record breaking touchdown was Demaryius Thomas.

Manning extended his score to 510 in the game with another pass to Demaryius Thomas which was the 30th touchdown between the two. What makes this record all the more significant is the fact that he reached this milestone in just his 246th game which is 56 less than what it took Favre to reach the same number.

Manning had to battle with career threatening injuries many times in his career especially during the time when he missed the entire season of the NFL thanks to a fusion surgery on his spine and neck. This happened two years ago when he was released by Indianapolis Colts. However, his career was revived when he was signed by the Denver Broncos.

He still has some time left in his career and there is no one close who can beat his record in the near future.
