In news that comes as a major setback for the largest car manufacturer, Toyota, the company made an announcement on Wednesday to recall more than six million of its vehicles running on the roads right now from all over the world. This decision was taken as the company found many problems in almost 30 models across United States, Japan and Europe.

The customers, though, never really complained as there was no case of any injury or crash reported in any of the Toyota cars. However, there were a couple of reports of cars catching fire, the reason being a defective engine starter that keeps the motor running. The models which were affected by this recall include Highlander, Tacoma, Yaris, Corolla among many others.

Some of the models were recalled for more than a single problem. Some of the non-Toyota models which were recalled include the Subaru Trezia and the Pontiac Vibe that were manufactured between the year 2004 and 2013. Pontiac Vibe is a General Motors car, but it is also involved since this model was manufactured at the same plant as the Toyota’s Matrix in California. This particular model was recalled because of a problem in the spiral cable of the air bag.

Other issues with the cars include windshield wiper motor, bracket holding the steering column and seat rails. A major chunk of the recall came from North America where 2.3 million vehicles were recalled followed by Japan and Europe. Toyota, which has a history of recalls went through a similar crisis in 2009 an 2010. The issues during that time included defective brakes, sticky gas pedals and faulty floor mats.

Thanks to such carelessness, the Japanese giant had to pay a large sum as penalty to hide these defects. It is quite likely that Toyota might be penalized again for this current recall.
