One of the most celebrated professional wrestlers in the history of World Wrestling Entertainment or WWE The Ultimate Warrior, whose real name was Jim Hellwig, died at the age of 54 on Tuesday. The cause of his death is still unknown as he was found on the floor in a hotel in Arizona. Ironically his death comes just a few days after he was inducted into the WWE Hall of fame.
WWE expressed their deep sadness and shock over the death of one of its most illustrious wrestlers in a statement issued to the media. The Ultimate Warrior began his career back in 1987 and went on to become one of the most iconic wrestlers of WWE.
His victory against Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania VI is fondly remembered by his fans which ultimately led to him becoming the WWE champion. That match is still considered the greatest ever wrestling match in the history of WWE. He made a brief appearance on WWE’s show Raw after a gap of 18 years just a few days back.
Many of his fans and supporters expressed their grief and respect on the internet through tweets and messages including famous personalities like Vince McMahon, Dwayne Johnson, Triple H and Hulk Hogan.
The relationship between Hellwig and WWE has not always been rosy as he left the organization and was involved in bitter court battle for the copyright of the name ‘The Ultimate Warrior’. However, the two parties reconciled which led to him being included in the hall of fame as well as his character being included in their video game.
Hellwig, who began his career as a body builder, became a motivational speaker for a short period of time after his wrestling career was over. Hellwig leaves behind his wife Dana and his two daughters.
