Recording artist Edie Brickell and her Grammy award winning singer-husband Paul Simon were involved in an ugly altercation at their New Canaan home last Saturday. Paul who is famous for being one of the members in the band Simon and Garfunkel had to appear in the court with his wife as both of them faced charges of domestic violence.
The hearing took place two days after the dispute as both the husband and wife stood in the court holding each other’s hands. They assured the court that the incident was one-off and isolated and that there was no need for any protective order against either of them.
The couple were arrested soon after the incident took place as police received a call on 911 from their home. The caller hung up soon after making the call. The police officer who arrived at the scene first described the incident as a minor physical altercation between the couple and there was aggressiveness on the part of both sides. He also told that both of them were co-operating with them when they were apprehended for a brief period of time, but then were left alone as they were issued summons for misdemeanor.
The Grammy winner and his wife were charged with disorderly conduct, but they told the judge that they just had an argument and they are fine now. The couple were married in 1992 and they have three kids together. When the judge asked whether any protective order should be issued, Simon said neither of them had any fear of each other. Even Brickell confessed to the court that Simon was no threat to her at all.
The case was subsequently referred to the diversionary program of the court. If the couple complete the program successfully, the entire charges will be dropped against them and their records will be erased.
