If reports are to be believed, Fox 2000 is all set to make the sequel of the 1993 classic Mrs. Doubtfire. The movie starred Robin Williams as Mrs Doubtfire alongwith Sally Fields, Mara Wilson and Lisa Jakub in supporting roles. The sequel that is likely to be called Mrs. Doubtfire 2 will be written by the writer of the film Elf , David Berenbaum. The news was confirmed on Thursday by the spokeswoman of the studio.
The internet was abuzz with activity after the news broke out as fans wanted to know who all will be back for the second installment. There were many fans who also felt that the movie should be left alone.
However, Mara Wilson who played the role of the younger daughter in the first movie confirmed that she will not be appearing in the sequel as no one from the production department contacted her. Mara apparently is against the studio bosses’ decision to make the sequel of the film. She also believes that sequels generally do not work unless and until they are part of a series or trilogy. She was quite blatant about her views which she expressed on Twitter. Even Lisa Jakub has declared that she won’t be there in the sequel.
The 62 year old Robin Williams will be reprising his role while the producers are trying to rope in Chistopher Columbus to helm the movie. Robin Williams played the role of a father of three, Daniel Hillard a struggling actor. He disguises himself as a nanny to spend more time with his kids after he is separated from his wife. Pierce Brosnan also played a small role in the film. The film was a huge success commercially as it earned a whopping $400 million worldwide.
