Rancher Cliven Bundy Passes Racial Comments

A rancher from Nevada, Cliven Bundy recently made a serious racial remark saying that negros fared better when they were slaves. This comment is the latest among a series of similar comments with racial overtones from a group of people who still follow a conservative mindset.

According to a report in the New York Times, the 67 year old Bundy said- “They have the habit of aborting their young kids, their young men always go to jail only because they never bothered to learn the simple task of picking cotton.”

He also said that the current situation of the blacks is no better than what it was during the time of slavery, as the government subsidy is doing them no good with regards to an improved family life. He spoke about this issue on ‘The Peter Schiff Show’. Bundy became a public figure among the conservatives during his land dispute with the federal government and some people have strongly defended his racial comments.

The politicians though, especially those with a conservative background like Senator Dean Heller and Senator Paul Rand distanced themselves from the statement made by Bundy and, in fact, strongly condemned the offensive comment.

Experts suggest that such comments indicates the presence of cultural tensions between communities in many segments in the American society. This comes after the recent racial remark given by rocker Ted Nugent on President Barack Obama. These remarks also gives an indication of a feeling of insecurity among the whites as there has been a huge demographic shift with blacks now outgrowing the whites according to the latest census data in many parts of America.

The Republicans are now fearing a backlash from the Democrats as they believe that such comments from pro Republicans is making them lose the support of the blacks minorities who in the near future may no longer be regarded as minorities.
