State of the Union 2014

The president of United States of America, Barack Obama‘s State of the Union 2014 address at Capitol Hill in Washington failed to inspire much confidence. He was not very successful at offering anything more than spelling out his achievements in the past few years. In his address he stressed upon the fact that 2014 could be the year of action for the United States as the new policies which the office is going to implement will help in facing the challenges that may come ahead.

Even after passing through a hapless 2013 where he saw his approval ratings go down miserably, he was not in a mood to change as he offered no new policies in his union speech. While he stated that the corporate profit rose significantly, the fact remains that the average wages have remained the same for quite some time and the inequality in income is at an all time high.

Even the senior administration in the government felt that he was way short of good ideas. He asked for the co-operation of the Congress for passing an Income Tax Credit bill that will provide some relief to a lot of families.

He laced his speech with many instances of his achievements like how in the last few years the unemployment rate had gone down, the emerging job opportunities in the manufacturing sector and most importantly, the production of domestic oil overtaking the import.

On the climate change front, Obama didn’t offer much apart from the fuel efficiency regulation of trucks. As expected, he was not able to satisfy his friends from the Republican party as he reiterated his policy of sidestepping the opinion of the Congress when needed.

In the end, Obama swore to carry out his agenda with full conviction even after knowing fully, the limitations of his office.
